回紋是由陶器與青銅器上常見的雷紋衍化而來，因雷雨滋潤萬物，因此被認為是連綿不斷的吉祥象徵，因為形狀與「回」字相像，因此又稱為回紋。回紋的歷史悠遠，從青銅器時代便常見於各種器物之上，到了宋代窯燒技術發達，回紋便常做為瓷器的邊飾。

Rectangular spirals came from the lines that were often seen on the surfaces of china or copper containers. These lines were known as “thunder spirals,” and as rain and thunder nourish the Earth, they were seen to be a symbol of luck. As these rectangular spirals are similar in shape to the character 回, they were also given the name 回紋 (rectangular spirals). Rectangular spirals have a long history, and can often be seen as decorative patterns on china.

四角い螺旋は、中国や銅の容器の表面によく見られる線から来た。 これらの線は「雷の螺線」として知られていました。雨と雷が地球に栄養を与えると、彼らは幸運の象徴とみなされました。 これらの長方形の渦巻きは、文字回と同様の形状であるため、名前は回紋（四角い螺旋）とも言われました。 長方形の螺線は、長い歴史を持ち、中国の装飾パターンとしてよく見られます。
